Apotheken Umschau elected as European Digital Publishing Platform of the Year

At the European Publishing Awards 2019, the digital edition of Apotheken Umschau from Germany will be awarded as “European Digital Publishing Platform of the Year” after it was elected by an international jury.

Launched in 2001, the platform reaches six million users per month. Factor of success is its encyclopedic character – which could be a model for other countries in Europe according to the jury. Special Awards within this category go to 24sata from Croatia, bunte.de from Germany and watson.ch from Switzerland. “European Digital Publishing Start-up of the Year” is Republik. The Zurich-based online product is to a high extend financed by its users. The jury lauded Republik’s brave and successful crowdfunding concept and its focus on editorial quality.
The European Publishing Awards honor the best digital products, magazines and newspapers of Europe’s various media industries, showcasing products, design and concepts, as well as tools, business models and publishing solutions. Media companies that create and market content-driven products were invited to participate, as well as their suppliers and service providers.
All awards will be distributed at the European Newspaper Congress from May 12 – 14 in Vienna. At the conference, 500 editors and publishers from European media companies share best practices, cases and strategies. Austria’s chancellor Sebastian Kurz will deliver the opening keynote. Friede Springer will be awarded for her lifetime achievement.
